| Introduction | I started this blog to post the photos I had taken of my friend Tom Terrell. Tom and I were photographers as students at Howard University in the late '60's and early 70's and have remained good friends over the years. Tom went on to a celebrated career as a music journalist/critic, most recently in NYC, but has recently returned to DC (home of family and many friends) where he is undergoing treatment for cancer. He continues to write and to contribute music reviews for NPR. I, meanwhile have maintained a career as a photographer in DC. Back at Howard, I became 'Jeff the Purple'(people who know me know why) in back-handed tribute to noted campus contrarian Robert 'the Black' Taylor. Tom became 'Tom the Shutter.' To many fellow Howard alums we remain 'Purple' and 'Shutter' to this day. |
