Introduction I play with words, travel the world, meet people, listen to stories, live by faith, read all the time, and write about what I see and hear. This blog is a place where you can find observations on this life. My views are not necessarily those of my organization, though so far they are tolerant of my quirks. So is my husband, Chris: In May 2012 I left behind a lifetime of singleness to become a wife and stepmother.
Interests words, ideas, people, cultures, reading, writing, listening, praying, learning, storytelling, serving, strategy, sociology, religion, ethnography, unreached peoples, missions, coffee, meaning of life, Jesus
Favorite Music I always find the music question a bit intimidating. It puts my coolness - or lack thereof - on display. So, I'm not going to tell you how much I listen to music that was written before I was born.
Favorite Books I like anything well written. But I especially like these:, The Bible, Christianity Rediscovered, The Supper of the Lamb, Tremendous Trifles, Not Less Than Everything, The Middle of Everywhere, Enduring Grace, Ella Enchanted, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Great Divorce, Traveling Mercies, Bird by Bird, Les Miserables, Confessions, and almost anything by, Malcolm Gladwell, Fredrick Buechner, Orson Scott Card, or, Madeleine L'Engle

You've got to make contact with the alien leader. How will you tell when the conversation is finished?

Strangely, this has happened to me. Well, not exactly, or if anyone was the alien, it was me. But I've definitely run into diverse leave-taking traditions in different cultures I've visited. In Tunisia you know it's time to leave when your host brings you coffee. I do not think this would work where I come from.
