| Introduction | My project attempts to uncover stories of the passage of the European Jewish refugees in Morocco during 1940-1943. It will focus on the stories of individuals, institutions (international refugee relief organizations) and political authorities (Vichy and Moroccan authorities) by way of testimonies (interviews, memories, ego documents, eyewitness accounts, inspection reports and reports of the authorities) and political decrees/statements. Its purpose is to provide more insight into the plight and path of the Jewish refugees from arrival to departure, focusing in particular on their stay in the camps and the reasons behind their detention. I am a historian, known for my publications about the refugee policy in the twentieth century. The most important were my dissertation 'Both selfish and selfless. The Dutch admission policy for refugees and displaced persons from 1945 to 1956' (in the research school ‘History of Human Rights’) and my book 'Jewish refugees in the Netherlands 1938 to 1940.
