| Introduction | I have been riding for as long as I can remember. My parents recall me pestering them for pony rides as a young girl, and this later progressed to demands for horse camp and riding lessons. What my parents assumed was a 'phase' turned into a full-blown obsession with horses. I loved everything - trail riding, hunter/jumper, flat work, games riding. I also fell absolutely in love with the draft breeds. I finally realized the dream of owning my own horse when I was sixteen. My father bought me a well-broke Belgian x Thoroughbred named Louis for my birthday and I kept him until I went to university, at which time I had to sell him due to financial reasons. Heartbroken, I left the horsey world for a while and returned to part-boarding and leasing during my final years of university. I then made the decision to go horse-hunting again when I had earned my main degree, stumbling upon Boomer, an elephant-sized tank with a kind eye and too much personality for his own good. I have owned Boomer for under a year now, and we are taking things slow due to his young age, but everyday presents a new challenge and I look forward to whatever awaits us. |
