IntroductionI began my precast career in 1990 working in the engineering department as a project designer. The product line I was responsible for was above ground buildings. In late 1995 I moved into the position of quality engineer, and by 1997 had led the company to become the first precaster in the US to earn ISO 9001 Certification. My position was eventually expanded to include safety and environmental compliance, and my title became Quality/Safety Director. I managed a team of four technicians. In 1997 I attended a five day course by the PCA on the Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures. This course really opened my mind on the chemistry of concrete. I have loved studying the composite material ever since. I also began my research on a corrosion issue that we primarily saw in distribution boxes. I learned that this was a biological corrosion, and is commonly referred to as Microbially Induced Concrete Corrosion. I am passionate about precast concrete, leadership, and serving others in the industry. I continue to promote best practices in making precast concrete so that factory made concrete products can continue to gain market share around the world.
