| Introduction | Someone once said to me: I will die happy when: (a) someone tells where the first electron came from, and (b) I have read every book ever written. I suppose this means I will not die happy. But then I suspect few of us are happy to die. You miss your kids growing up. You don't get to see what sort of a mess we'll make of things in the future. Or just maybe you miss out on seeing a solution to world hunger and mindless violence (tautology that: all violence is mindless - well, at least it's all a sign of weakness). I should have learned more from life than I have - self-awareness would be a good start. Consistency would help. Oh, and do I have to be so judgemental? And revisionist. Well, we're all revisionist: we tell the story about ourselves that we want people to hear rather than the one that really happened. |
