| Introduction | Mike was born and raised in Stanford, Kentucky. At the invitation of a good friend, he began attending the Methodist Youth Fellowship and eventually joined the Methodist Church. Sensing a call to ministry, Mike majored in psychology and biblical studies at Asbury College, worked in youth ministry for seven years and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. He also was a resident scholar in the Beeson Pastor Program, earning a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1997. Over the course of his ministry, Mike has served as a youth and young adult minister in Raleigh, North Carolina and Versailles, Kentucky and as pastor of the Hindman, Science Hill, Harrodsburg, Morehead, and State Street (Bowling Green) United Methodist congregations in the Kentucky Annual Conference. Bishop James King appointed Mike as Superintendent of the Bowling Green District in June, 2006. His wife, Sherry, is head of the Department of Special Instructional Programs at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Mike and Sherry have two children, Jonathan and Leah, and a daughter-in-law, Faith Bowdle Powers. |
