| Introduction | Hello there, my name is Hester Santlow. You may know me better as Hester Booth (my husband was Barton Booth, who was one of the most famous dramatic actors of the 18th century). At just 16 I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life, I wanted to be on the stage. I started out as a dancer and was well known for my role as Harlequin from the Italian Commedia dell’arte. I was so wonderful that they even made a painting of me in my costume! About 3 years later I became an actress. My greatest role was that of Cordelia, the youngest daughter in Shakespeare’s play King Lear. It was such fun to play that role. Well, I best be off now or I’ll be late for rehearsal! It was a joy to meet you! |
