About me

Occupation Innkeepers
Location Chincoteague Island, Virginia, United States
Introduction By now you know that we are Innkeepers and have been for many, many years. David is from Chicago and I am from Leeds, England. I enjoy spending time with the Inn guests, and getting the opportunity to use my language skills (French, Dutch, reasonable German and Spanish - even a little Arabic thrown in. Hey, let's not forget English also!!) David is the quiet one of the team -- he's really good at taking care of our guests, but doesn't talk as much as I do..... He's also the maintenance guy and can fix anything! David was once a school psychologist and a Montessori teacher, and loves hanging out with the kids who stay at the Inn. They love him too. Fondly, Barbara Wiedenheft
Interests Well, we're so busy at the Inn we don't have much spare time. However, David enjoys Sudoku, and structural modification to buildings!! Quite a combination. I love to garden and to cook and spend much of my time baking in my wonderful kitchen at the Channel Bass Inn. We both enjoy spending time with family and friends, usually over dinner, either at home or away! Of course, in our off time, we do love to travel, both in the US and overseas. At the moment, we are painting the entire interior of our house (not the Inn!) with the help of our friend Corinne (Barbara's garden friend). It's fun to choose colours, of course. Sometimes our choices don't work out so well, but one can always doctor the paint!! It is a huge project, and it is giving us an immense feeling of accomplishment. So there! We'll let everyone know when the mission is accomplished. And we almost forgot to mention our 11 cats -- five at the Inn, and six at home on Clark Street -- whom we love dearly.
Favorite Movies Just saw "It's Complicated" in Toronto. We absolutely loved it. I still say my favourite movie is "E.T."!! I used to read the book to my daughter Nina when she was little, but could never quite manage to read the last page - too many tears. Ah, those memories...
Favorite Music David is an old Bluegrass musician - upright bass. Sadly, these days he doesn't have much time to play. However we do encourage all our guests to bring their instruments, and their singing voices to the Inn. Some afternoons we have "Scones and Jam Sessions!" I have a huge collection of music from all around the world. At the Inn we have a CD player that holds 100 CDs, played at random. One never knows what's going to come up. Many guests comment on how much they enjoy the eclectic collection. My favourite French singer is Serge Reggiani (unfortunately he died a few years ago) and she also loves Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel. One of her favourite English tenors is Russell Watson and she may play his version of "Nessun Dorma" at a higher volume - oh, that last note will bring tears to your eyes... Pavarotti, we miss you so much.
Favorite Books David enjoys non-fiction, particularly on history and nutrition. I love to read - some of my favourite authors are Louise Erdrich (The Master Butchers Singing Club and The Last Report on the miracles at Little No Horse), Julia Alvarez (In the Time of the Butterflies, ) Kazuo Ishiguro (The Unconsoled.) At the moment I am enjoying reading the story of Edgar Sawtelle, a first novel by David Wroblewski.
