Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin
My blogs
| Introduction | I belong to the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Thoughh my real name is Erica, in the SCA my name is Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin (Ayv-lin in-yin wee Fayden). My passion is lampworking (i.e., making glass beads), in particular, studying about medieval Irish glass beads. I love learning new and more advanced techniques as well as making jewelry with both period and modern designs. I have discovered the joy of research and documentation including reading books on archaeological sites to learn about glass beads and the people who wore them. I am apprenticed to Mistresses Elysabeth (Lissa) Underhill, and have worked with Lissa and Dame Brunissende Dragonette on experimenting with making period furnaces on which to make beads. I enjoy sewing garb for myself, my husband and son, and enjoy weaving trim on my inkle loom. Though I am trying, I have yet to successfully learn to use a lucet. I hope to learn to knit something other than a scarf. I hope this blog serves as a record of my progress as a beadmaker and my projects as well as my other artistic endeavors. |
