| Introduction | In audio signal processing and acoustics; an echo is a reflection of sound; arriving at the listener some time after the direct sound. When dealing with audible frequencies; the human ear cannot distinguish an echo from the original sound if the delay is less than 1/10 of a second. Thus; since the velocity of sound is approximately 343 m/s at a normal room temperature of about 20°C; a reflecting wall must be more than 16.2 m from the sound source at this temperature for an echo to be heard by a person at the source. |
| Interests | My fan mail is enormous. Everyone is under six (Alexander Calder) |
| Favorite movies | According to Greek mythology Echo was an Oread who had the job of talking incessantly to Hera; the Queen of the Gods; so that her husband; Zeus; wouldn't get caught in his numerous affairs. Hera caught on to the trick and cursed her to only be able to repeat what others had just said. |
| Favorite music | One day Echo spied a golden-haired youth hunting deer in the woods. The boy’s name was Narcissus; and when Echo first laid eyes upon Narcissus; her heart burned like the flame of a torch. But Narcissus had no heart; and loved no one. She secretly followed him through the woods; loving him more with each step. She got closer and closer until finally Narcissus heard the leaves rustling. He told whoever was there to come out. Echo came out and; because she couldn't talk; used her hands to show Narcissus how much she loved him. Narcissus; annoyed that so many people liked him; rejected her love. The goddess Nemesis; she who ruins the proud; cursed Narcissus into falling in love with his own reflection; which he did when he saw himself in a lake; he died looking at himself; and was turned into the flower now bearing his name. Echo; heart-broken and desolate after Narcissus’s death; did not eat or sleep. All her beauty faded away; and she became very thin until her voice was all that was left. She prayed to Aphrodite for death; and sha answered her prayer; but let her voice live on. |
| Favorite books | The god Pan and Echo had one child; Iambe; goddess of verse and ribald humour. But when Echo once denied his love; Pan got furious and tore her to shreds; scattering her about the Earth and leaving bits of her everywhere for us to find; or rather hear; forever. |
