| Introduction | My education and work have been linked by a profound interest in systems and systems redesign. Even my monthly column, “Not Alone,” in the Rhode Island Jewish Voice & Herald, explores relationships and influences on communal and societal levels. I earned a Master of Public Health degree in 2006 from Brown University with a thesis on the measurement of comprehensive, quality diabetes care. Prior to that, I completed a PhD in History and the History of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001, with a dissertation entitled “Let Them Eat Horsemeat!: Science, Philanthropy, State, and the Search for Complete Nutrition in Nineteenth-Century France.” My MA in History from Wisconsin focused on “Nazism as a Secular Religion.” I taught courses on “Critical Thinking” and “Culture & Food” to culinary students at Johnson & Wales University from 2001-2003. My current writing projects include one on rational religion and the “new atheists.” I have taken an active role in my local Jewish community, serving on the boards and various committees of the Providence Hebrew Day School and Congregation Beth Sholom. I live in Providence, RI with my wife and three children. |
