Introduction | Living in the beautiful New Forest, I am married, a recently retired teacher and the mother of grown up boys who have flown the nest. I share my days with cats, dogs, ponies and the wildlife all around us. Starting this blog is a chance to explore woods, fields, lanes and heath with my camera. A chance to share the simple pleasures of my country life. |
Interests | Natural history, reading (poetry, the novel and literary biography), animal welfare, the environment and all things green, psychology -especially child development, horses - (I rarely ride nowadays due to health problems, but I am interested in methods of horsemanship that use a knowledge of the way a horse develops, thinks and behaves), wildlife gardening, country and coastal walks, following the news, family history, social history, interesting buildings, simple country cookery, art and art history |
Favorite movies | Old favourites- Dr Zhivago, Death in Venice, A Room With a View, Mrs Dalloway,Ghandi,Black Beauty,Calendar Girls,to name a few.... More recently - Atonement, The Pianist, The Reader |
Favorite music | Mozart,Brahms, Beethoven,Delius, Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Richard Strauss,Mahler...the list goes on. I would love more time to listen to a whole symphony or concerto as I used to do. Listening is often now reduced to catching the "best bits" on Classic FM while I drive. I also love the folk and rock music of the 60`s and 70`s. Recent live concerts- Cream at the Albert Hall, Joan Baez, Paul Simon.Rare treats. |
Favorite books | The novels of Jane Austen, the Brontes,George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, DH Lawrence, Virginia Woolf, John Steinbeck, John Updike and too many modern authors to mention by name. I enjoy reading new authors and revisiting old friends. My house is full of books.I love to have them around me.I swap and share with friends but have a library of best loved novels and poetry that will never leave me. |
