| Introduction | Seven years ago, I left the bike trails, freshly-mowed lawns, and spattering of woods that is Arlington, Virginia for the gritty, busy, cement ball of chaos that is New York City. The 18 year old screenwriting student in the Big Apple that I was allowed myself to think that I was already the next William Goldman. By the time Christmas rolled around, I was doubting my ability to even ever churn out a made-for-TV movie of the week. In the years since, I’ve built my tough skin – I dare you to cut through it – written more crappy scripts than I can count, stuck my toe in the sometimes icy water that is the film industry, and, to my great fortune, begun making great strides as a writer. The wisdom to admit I sucked, will – and willingness – to improve, and patience to always listen to feedback have been some of the greatest tools in my arsenal. Now, nearly four years out of school, I’m developing a post-Apocalyptic spec with a production company in LA. I just hope that my journey provides at least a fraction of the education for you that it did for me. |
