IntroductionQualified as an architect with a specialization in conservation and community architecture I am presently practicing humanitarian architecture. It was in the 90s ‘the graduation days’ when I was introduced to an urban scenario in Mumbai, India. Coming from the pristine Andaman Islands to study architecture with an ambition to create something beautiful someday, the transit from an untouched countryside to a concrete urban texture was a yank to contrast; I started realizing the vitality of conservation and set myself to the lines of environment delineation. Like most of the vernacular architects I started believing in the sensitivity of tradition, culture, climate and place in architecture. And the first question that I faced was ‘WHY?’ again. Architecture became more justified by being indigenous in our designs. I was there for a study to learn the future from the past and the destiny was the tribes in Andamans. I shall surely share the findings and experiences somewhere. Dec 2004 Tsunami, major devastation in the coastal communities, the coin spun for humanitarianism as religion. Since then I had been involved in humanitarian Shelters as a consultant with various aid agencies.
