| Introduction | Some say variety is the spice of life and I must agree! I do seem to thrive on variety. Perhaps that is why I have chosen collage as my art form. Embellishing helps to fill my creative void, a void that I fill with beads, baubles, do-dads, and what's - its. My goal is to create a pathway of embellishments that leads your eye skillfully across every inch of my creation. My artwork process begins by juxtaposing a handful of fabrics with a variety of colors and textures creating a base layer called, affectionately by quilters, crazy patch. Secondly rediscovered vintage laces, trims, cording and such are applied with hand embroidery. Appliqué, silk ribbon flowers and decorative yarns and threads may be added as well. Antique jewelry and other modern miscellany are sewn into a third layer to begin the collage. At this point I often add a patron's memorabilia. Each work of art I finish is subtly unique, a new treasure in its time. |
