| Introduction | Growing up with a liberal mother and conservative father I have witnessed firsthand that varying political views can cause conflict. However, it has been my time spent visiting family in various regions in the United States, and being exposed to different cultural and socioeconomic environments, that have truly shaped my political views. As a result of these influences my own political views tend to be fairly conservative. I have always been intrigued by politics and in fact initially majored in political science with the intent in pursuing a career advocating legally for the rights of the disabled. Yet, I soon realized that I wanted to work more directly with people, leading me to change my major to speech pathology. Nonetheless, I remain very interested in the political process and although I am taking this class to complete a core requirement at UT, I am looking forward to learning more about the unique features of Texas government. Furthermore, I hope that this will give me the knowledge to make informed decisions when I vote for the first time. |
