Introduction I am an assistant clinical professor of nursing who teaches second degree nursing students in Durham, NC. I am a nurse & nurse-midwife of 37 years and have recently come to the world of academia. I have grown to despise lecturing, PowerPoint and anything that smacks of placing the students in a passive mode of learning. For the past six years I have been on a quest to learn how to be a better teacher in the classroom. Specifically to make what I teach salient, relevant & engaging to adult learners. This blog was created to share ideas, strategies and to highlight tools and information that would be of interest to other educators and specifically, other nursing educators.
Interests I am a first year "Faculty in Residence" at Duke University living in a beautiful apartment in Randolph Residence Hall. I am living around 180 freshman co-eds with my cute wire fox terrier, Cody. I work to incorporate art into everything I do. I have 2 almost grown children, ages 25 & 20. Almost I say because as males they do not profuse their frontal cortex (of their brain) till age 30...and you can tell it with both of them! But they are lovely.
