Sponges and tongues are frequently misspelled. Is it because both are thirsty?
Yes. If you remove the Sp from sponge and the T from tongue you have the same letters remaining except for the letter "U". Sponges absorb and do not notice u. Tongues, speak trying to reach u. A thirsty indulgent tongue has no interest in u and so is misspelt omitting the u. When a sponge stops absorbing it gets thirsty and looks to u, then the sponge erroneously gets spelt with a u.
