| Introduction | Prime minister's health adviser Syed Modasser Ali inaugurated the 25-bed BGMEA Hospital at Saltgola intersection on Saturday. The number of beds in the country's first hospital for garment workers will be increased to 100 in phases, said leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) who attended the programme. Garment workers will get healthcare services and medicines free of cost at the hospital constructed on 31 kathas of land, they said. The apparel sector apex body is constructing the 10-storey hospital complex and construction up three floors has already been completed. The hospital has inpatient and outpatient departments, a modern pathology, ambulance service and other specialised treatment facilities. Apart from the general wards, the hospital will also have a burn unit, the BGMEA leaders said. BGMEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy chaired the function, addressed, among others, by Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) chairman Abdus Salam, BGMEA first vice-president Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and second vice-president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin. |
