IntroductionI am a History teacher ("Professor" and "Dr." sound so pretentious; also, they do not describe/convey what I do...which is teach) at a small, 2-year junior college [John Wood] in Illinois. I have been a teacher for almost 18 years (WOW! that's a really long time! Isn't retirement just around the corner?!) and, hopefully, have imparted some "good" to my students in that time. I have been married to the most wonderfully patient woman for 14 years: in that time, she has given me the 3 most beautiful (yes! I said beautiful) boys any man could ask for. They can do anything they set their minds to, of that I am certain.
InterestsHISTORY!, reading (about History), coffee (I have read a biography on the HISTORY of coffee), politics (as connected to History), some television (History Channel, Discovery, National Geographic, etc.), and writing...about History.
Favorite moviesDr. Strangelove, Monty Python/Holy Grail, A Lion In Winter (the original), Kingdom of Heaven, Arsenic and Old Lace (classic Cary Grant), The Princess Bride, Star Wars, Castaway, Ken Burns' Civil War.
Favorite musicClassical, esp. baroque style. I read an article (can't recall where...smell the irony!) that stated classical music encourages/sparks brain activity (and I need all the help I can get!) Also, the music of the 80s; which, to some, might be described as "classical."
Favorite booksANY book that I am currently reading. Some I have read (and re-read) the past few months: Nixon and Kissinger, The Road to Dallas, 1491: The "New World" before Columbus, Persian Fire, The Great Bridge: The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge, Tried by War, at the moment, several books on Lincoln, of late.
