IntroductionMy name is Susan Swinemar. I have always been interested in learning about the mind and ways to understand specifically Autism, Learning Disabilities, and Mental Health in general. To understand more I have taken "Introduction to Psychology," Developmental Psychology 1" and "Mental Health Issues." I've attended several conferences from The Learning Disabilities Association of NS and Autism Awareness. My favorite guest speaker was Michelle Garcia Winner. "The Zones of Regulation" and her "Social Thinking" publications are well known and used widely in many schools. As well I met Barbara Coloroso at a LD conference. I was quite pleased to have taken my book "Kids are Worth It," the original first printing 1995 and have my book signed. In 2004 I seen Dr. Mel Levine and his approach of not discussing diagnoses but rather a minds possibilities using strengths and ways to help. His book, "A Mind at a Time," is a great read. I attended a play at the local theatre called "Gods Middle Name." This was Jenifer Overton acting about her life living with an autistic son and the challenges she experiences.
