| Introduction | Artifact was co-founded by Melissa Benham and Chana Morgenstern in November 2004 in the living room of their Mission District apartment. Since then it has hosted more than 70 writers, and been written up in Ellipsis magazine, SF Bay Guardian, and Venus magazine. As Chana has recently relocated to Rhode Island to pursue her Ph.D at Brown, and Melissa and her partner, Brent Cunningham, had their baby girl, Mina, the series is currently on hiatus. However, Melissa is looking forward to it's resurrection in a new venue in Winter 2008. |
| Interests | our main intention in organizing this reading series was to bring together (socially & aesthetically) "younger" innovative writers (prose, poetry, hybrid, performance, etc.) who may not have come together otherwise. our interests lie in writing that pushes on boundaries of language, form, genre, narrative, etc, in a fresh way. we only like writers who are nice to us. |
