| Introduction | Hi! I'm Jill, although most people call me Jilly. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I'm a self-taught artist and have used most mediums. For people portraits I prefer graphite pencils and a little pastel, but for animal portraits I prefer pastels. Pastel painting is the oldest painting technique and I think it is a very sympathetic medium to use for portraiture. I particularly like the challenge of rendering the fur for animal portraits. I like the portraits to look as though you could feel it. I use artists quality, acid free and age resistant materials. I recently discoveredHahnemühle Velour paper and absolutely love the depth that it gives for pastel portraits, so now it's all I use. You can see more of my work at www.jilltisbury.co.uk |
