Introduction | As a PhD student I am asked to read texts by "elite" scholars reporting their research, studies, and experiments on lower class individuals, basic writers, minorities, etc. It has been engrained in me that I am supposed to idolize these figures because I will soon become one of them. Meaning, I am supposed to allow these people who are nothing like me to be my role models so I too can exploit my people for research and compose texts that will supposedly "help" them in a format they cannot understand, publish it in a place they cannot access, and advertise it with a title that is uninteresting to them all for professional praise. No, HELL NO! I will write professionally, but I will also write publicly. My goal is to pass knowledge down to my people, not exclude them from it. |
Interests | I am currently pursuing my PhD in rhetoric and composition, with an area of interest in racism, rhetorics of prison and convict discourse. I intend on teaching in a penal institution upon the completion of my degree. I also plan on becoming a public scholar to better the well-being of my community. |
