If you were a pirate, how would you avoid laughing when saying "poop deck"?
First of all, I take a professional attitude towards my work, so not laughing wouldn't be difficult. Secondly, in my profession we prefer the term "maritime organized crime syndicates" to "pirate." We would not want to prejudice any possible jury - for or against.
