Introduction | I am a born again blues fan. I grew up with the Rolling Stones, who played at my college Christmas dance and places in West London where I still live, The Yardbirds with Eric Clapton, and UK and US blues and R & B, everything from Sonny Boy Williamson, Motown, Jimi Hendrix to Led Zeppelin. However, women go to whatever the man of the moment takes them to, in my case, rock-a-billy, 10cc, Genesis, Madness, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson and so on. Then I went to one of the blues nights during Eric Clapton's 24 Nights at the Royal Albert Hall in 1992 and I saw the light: Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Robert Cray, Jimmy Vaughan, Jerry Portnoy. After this I decided I would go to hear music that I liked. I soon found Blueprint magazine and started to write for it. I met with guitarist Jon Taylor and and we started a record label called Abacabe Records and a music publisher called Abacabe Music. In 1997, Jon and I took over Blueprint from Scott & Sue Duncan, forming Abacabe Publishing, and I have been the editor ever since. In 2002, we changed the name of the magazine to Blues In Britain, to avoid confusion with several other magazines. |
