IntroductionI'm a stay-at-home mom for the first time in years and years, since my youngest got shot and left paralyzed. (I didn't shoot her, despite more than sufficient provocation on more than one occasion.) I try to balance caring for her, watching babies and seniors to earn grocery money, and caring for myself; sometimes all that gets out of balance. My older two girls are mostly grown and mostly on their own, after years of trying their best to turn me gray. All three of my girls are so beautiful, so amazing, and so much fun to be with. Watching them grow and blossom is like watching the old nature shows that would show a flower blooming in just a few seconds. I love to read and to cook and to crochet, and am a political junkie. I love to study evolution and language, particularly English, and the acquisition of language and the evolution of English are things I find absolutely fascinating.
InterestsReading, Evolution, Language, Politics, Cooking, American History, Northern European Mythology
Favorite moviesAngels in the Outfield, A Fish Called Wanda, Pride & Prejudice, Fargo, Lake Placid, The Wonder Boys, and I'm sure others that I've forgotten. I have a weakness for cheesy monster movies and movies with bugs and creatures from outer space (thank you, Bob Wilkins!).
Favorite musicMostly anything where I can understand the words and enjoy the music. Singer-songwriters. Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Petty, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Harry Chapin, Inti-Illimani, Inkuyo (in its original incarnation), Inkari.
Favorite booksHow on earth to list these? Not possible. I will say that Jasper Fforde is the only author where I'll purchase his books at full retail price in hardback; and given my economic situation that is saying a lot. Christopher Moore, Gregory Maguire, and Bill Bryson I'll buy new in paper. I love to read Fredric Brown, Jane Austen, E.B. White, Terry Pratchett, Steven Pinker, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Dickens, Anthony Trollope, Shakespeare, Chaucer, and many others. Too numerous to count. In general, if it holds still, I'll read it.

If mud is dirt plus water, what is clay?

Dirt plus Crisco.
