| Introduction | What happens when our larger field of vision is demarcated into a rectangular composition? Isolated beauty? Art? Do we recognize it as beautiful only when it is isolated? And why the rectangle? What if we had glasses that were opaque except for a rectangular window for each eye? Would we be better at recognizing beauty, framed for us at each glance? Should we need such glasses? A camera might be described as a rectangle to look through and frame beauty. Should we need cameras? Perhaps not. But we do need artists, regardless of the medium they choose, to reveal beauty by partitioning the often cluttered living room of life experience. ~Tim Koehn |
