| Introduction | I'm a midwestern wife and mom of two (daughter J born in 2000 and son B born in 2001). My husband and I have always loved to travel and we recognized early on that we will have only a handful of golden summers in which our kids will want to hang out with us. When our youngest was 5, we took off on our first major road trip: driving from our home in Western Michigan to Yellowstone National Park. Early in the trip I picked up a notebook I had brought for my daughter to color in, and jotted down the places we went and some of the things we did. That battered, black notebook travelled with us on each of our subsequent trips, chronicalling the good, the bad and the ugly. These trips have been huge bonding experiences for our family and we've learned a lot over the years about how to plan and execute our adventures (we don't call them vacations!). I get a lot of requests from friends for information about the places we've been, so here it all is...all from that old black notebook. |
