Introduction I have a degree in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. I have been doing genealogy for over ten years. I started doing trees for friends and associated family, because I was curious about their history and if it intersected my own. Many of the trees I did for friends led back to my own tree, making them distant cousins. I am still not sure if this has anything to do with fate or karmic ties or that many people in a given regional locus are actually related. My father-in-law says if you go back far enough, we are all related due to the simple fact that there were exponentially fewer people the farther back you go. I love that genealogy gives us stories about individuals in the past. What else can combine a history lesson, respecting one's elders, and learning about yourself?
