| Introduction | Vela began her career at the tender age of 4 by selling her drawings outside of her mother’s store in Barcelona. Although business was booming for the pint-sized Picasso, she eventually moved to America and attended the Tyler School of Art. After graduation, she packed up her portfolio and headed to NYC. Although the SOHO lunches were fabulous, designing corporate brochures and magazines was not. A continuing education class in greeting card design, at the School of Visual Arts, introduced her to the social expressions industry. She soon realized the characters in her sketch filled notebooks could have a life of their own. It was that Aha moment. Today, 5 years later, Vela lives in Brooklyn Heights with her husband John, a former Madison Avenue copywriter, who manages the day to day of their Illustration & Design Studio, Little Star Soup. Their backgrounds in design, advertising, and marketing are the perfect ingredients to their success. Vela’s playful designs have been licensed by some of the most respected names in the social expressions industry, and has been told that her designs just make you smile. Her goal is to bring a little warmth and wonder to the world. |
