| Introduction | the best parts of me are the undying work of my loving Savior... the rest of me is an ugly mess (and has anyone noticed how easy it is to focus on the mess and miss the marvelous?!). I really don't want to be in my 50's and wonder how my life would be different if I had chosen to live by faith in my 20's. in a world of flying loves and fading lusts, it is something to be sure of a desire... in spite of my many questions and frustrations with life, I am sure of a desire. my desire has a name and to Him I entrust myself and the process of my healing. and in the process of being brought from glory to glory, it is a beautiful thing to be loved! I trust implicitly the hands of my Creator: that a mess like me can have hope and peace and joy in the journey of life is nothing less than a miracle. as I entrust myself to Him, my tattered soul is sprouting wings with which to fly... and I've often wondered if flying feels at all like being loved without condition or expectation. there's nothing like being in a relationship with Someone who knows all about me and loves me anyway—in the company of my Lover, I am learning to fly... |
| Interests | football (and by that I mean soccer), tennis, toccer (a beautiful union of two interests)... hiking, mt. biking, bouldering/rock climbing... deciding to run somewhere when I could just as easily walk... standing at the edge of something so high that I am reminded of how small I am... being enchanted by the flames of a fire... when the first stars of the evening are shrouded in the dying hues of a sunset... creating space for others to be at home in their own skin... sitting around a bonfire with people I love... laughing just because someone else is (the same goes for crying)... that feeling of deep contentment following a long laugh (the same goes for crying)... brewing a hot gourd of maté with accent herbs... the way voices and an acoustic guitar sound when they are used by a river/lake/ocean... eating breakfast with my family... climbing trees and forgetting the best way to get down... ice cream/gelato... adam's peanut butter... listening to peoples' stories... getting to know others over a good meal... exploring the world of a good metaphor... swimming in the deep end of the pool... learning to embrace the beauty of ambiguity... overusing the ellipsis... ... ... loving Jesus. |
| Favorite movies | to name a few, in no particular order: Big Fish, The Shawshank Redemption, Captain Ron, Fight Club, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, The Island, Office Space, Pirates of the Caribbean, A Christmas Story, Green Street Hooligans, Once (actually, I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but I love the backdrop it creates for the music) |
| Favorite music | i think our preference in music can serve as a barometer for our souls. it sounds mystical, but have you noticed how vehemently people defend there musical preference? it's as if one's soul is at stake! some people resonate with screaming and others prefer the absence of words altogether... some resent others for their musical preference while others have no preference at all. that being said, I enjoy music that reflects the subtleties of life--a lyric or a lick that captures the essence of something that evades most or reflects the truth of a matter that most evade |
| Favorite books | The Bible; A Tale of Three Kings and The Divine Romance by Gene Edwards; Velvet Elvis and Sex God by Rob Bell; most anything by C.S. Lewis (Great Divorce in praticular); the Shack by William P. Young, Saint Julian by Walter Wangerin Jr. |
