| Introduction | MY WORK/EDUCATION AND JOB: I am a Professor of Sociology at Cal State Long Beach. Ph.D. in Sociology (UCSD 2005) BA in Women’s Studies from San Diego State (1994); MA from the Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies at UCSD in 1998. My areas of research and teaching expertise include Globalization, Social Inequality and Health, Sociology of the AIDS epidemic, Sociology of Health and Medicine, Non profit Organizations and Sectors, Transnational Social Movements and Community-Based Research Methods. |
| Interests | PERSONAL INTERESTS AND HOBBIES: Physical fun - swimming, yoga, walking (preferably on the beach), hiking, biking, etc. I also enjoy Indy and foreign films, discussing politics, contemporary art and art museums in general, any kind of live music, wine country and wine tasting, traveling to out-of-the way exotic places - the jungles and beaches of Mexico and Latin America in particular. I also love animals of all types and volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter, and have a cat and guinea pig of my own. |
| Favorite movies | There are so many... Anything by Pedro Almodovar (Volver), Roberto Rodriguez (Mariachi trilogy), Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Grind House), Spielberg. I love documenataries (Death of the Electric Car, Is Walmart Good for America, Murderball) and Indy films (Citizen Ruth, Smoke Signals, Garden State) Spanish language foreign films (Amores Perros, Y Tu Mama Tambien) and everything in between - Old School, Team America-World Police, The Island. |
