Introduction	Hello! My name is Amanda, and this is my blog for PWR632 (Science and Environmental Writing) at Chatham University. I'm a technical editor who works for a health and social policy research firm in Washington, DC. I've always been interested in myth-busting and am usually the annoying person who posts the link to Snopes when someone shares an urban legend on Facebook. The prevalence of health-related myths bothers me in particular because I see the immediate harm that some of these false beliefs can cause. I've also seen some of my most intelligent friends and family--including people who work in health care--fall for myths peddled online and by shows like Dr. Oz, so I know how convincing they can be. I live with my husband, Charlie, and my cat, Gonzo, in Silver Spring, MD. In addition to blogging, my hobbies include reading, traveling, learning languages (Spanish and Esperanto), and volunteering.
