Introduction I was recently asked, "How are you qualified to teach Reggio?" Unlike Montessori, which requires a specialized degree, to follow the inspiration of the schools of the Reggio Emilia region of Italy does not require teachers to be "certified in Reggio". In fact--that certification doesn't exist. Reggio is a philosophy of education, not a curriculum. So, back to the question at hand...I am uniquely qualified to utilize this philosophy of education at Bella Natura. For nearly fifteen years, I have been refining a similar philosphy with my own three children in our one-room schoolhouse. Additionally, I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Education at IPFW (Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne) which included a number of courses encouraging the use of an emergent curriculum. I am a licensed Prek-6th grade teacher, but more important, I am a life-long learner...curious and playful alongside my students. I wouldn't want to earn my "certification" any other way!
