IntroductionA horrific demon has lurked deeply inside and I always believed it was me. The bitter fruits of physical and emotional child abuse synergistically confounded fifty years of precious life in harvests of uncountable, missed diagnoses of latent ADD with its resulting PTSD. Journaling, a therapy held in high regard, promotes emotional and physical well-being. Crescent Moon Howling At The Fool {Reversed} is, if I may humbly assert, a creatively designed, brilliantly planned memoir mapping journeys towards renaissance. CrescentMoonHowling pillars portals to voyages of discrete currents painted throughout time. Creative nonfiction beguiles with amusement and captivates in charm the spatial flight of narrative interlaced with nostalgia and ruminative, unsettling dreams plucked smoldering and charred from living nightmare.
InterestsI began my career as a juvenile delinquent, pulling the legs off ants then poking their eyes out with sticks. I worked my way up to pulling the legs off shrimp then poking their eyes out with a paring knife, but seriously... I learned extensive kitchen common-sensical notions such as 'how to not spring a leak every day!' or 'Don't knock the leftover Greek-style peas off the counter 5 minutes before punching out, idiot!' These are important things to know because you can get hurt offering red macaroni & cheese for supper! And you don't ever want to see those goddamned peas roll all over the shiny-clean floor you just spent half an hour mopping! By paying attention, working hard and asking a LOT of questions to a LOT of smart people, I honed knives and culinary skill in restaurant kitchens like St. Botolph St., Charlie's Cafeteria in Kenmore Square {and his little Penthouse in Harvard Square!}; the Sun-Tuey Restaurant in Government Center; Houllis' Island House on Clearwater Beach; nursing homes in greater Boston; programs of Catholic Charities in Brockton; coordinated dining services in Lowell for the Middlesex Homeless Shelter; re-wrote menus and greatly improved meal service at Healthsouth/St. Joe's in Lowell while managing its gorgeous dining cafe with mouth-watering goodies which all got ate by its workforce. It wasn't my intention but I polished off my career working as Chef/Manager at the serenely beautiful Rolling Ridge Retreat Center in North Andover. During the late '70's I engineered tape recordings for daily broadcast throughout Beantown's FM wavespace and nightly managed valet services at St. Botolph St. Restaurant then, discretely, for The Hampshire House Restaurant in whose front yard grows Boston's Public Gardens while out back The Charles River encircles to enshrine The Esplanade and Hatch Shell. These days I kill time by ripping the skin off bananas, eating the flesh of dead animals, and poking the eyes out of potatoes with a vegetable peeler!
Favorite moviesThere's no medicine better than a good laugh. Any Peter Seller's Pink Panther movie, Roger Moore as James Bond, I Love You To Death, What About Bob?, Prizzi's Honor, Monty Python, The Money Pit, Arthur, and believe it or not, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was unexpectedly very funny...
Favorite musicThe Beatles, The Beatles, Oh, and The Beatles... No seriously, anything played & recorded well that mirrors the mood I'm in...
Favorite booksA whole bunch of history books... I can't get enough! Got any you want to lose? Crescent Moon Howling At The Fool {Reversed} by Mike McDermott. Are there posted items in my blog I do not have the right to use? If so, PLEASE drop me a line!
