Byatt, The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Chocolat by Joanne Harris, and others, those are just the first ones that came into my head (several of them I'm reading for my classes right now).

no, I believe that forks and spoons were created at exactly the same time...one was to eat gruel and porridge and such, the other was to tear meat off the bones of hunted animals.
