| Introduction | I had been wearing relaxers ever since the age of 12. It all started with the jheri curl. Remember that style?, lol Then I grew my hair out and by the 9th grade I had really thick and nice healthy hair. But I let the pressures of my peers affect me and I eventually got a relaxer at age 16. Note: Never let your uncle's wife w/ no relaxer experience do a chemical on your hair, you will regret it, as I did. I experienced my first hair break down. My hair started shedding horribly and the next thing I knew, I was in the 11th grade and my hair was a thinned out mess. So, after highschool graduation, I got a relaxer again but this time it was done by a professional and my hair started to look really nice. My hair looked healthy looking through out my undergrad years. But by the early 2000's, I had already experienced more breakage than ever and even used hair weaves to cover up the damage. By Winter of 2004, I decided to do the big chop and start all over fresh... and I haven't looked back since then. |
