| Introduction | I got early retirement not so long ago and am exploring what life can be like without the 40 hour commuter week. It has been splendid. I remodeled my house, refinanced it, invested the proceeds, rented it out, bicycled from Santa Fe to Wyoming, lived in Paris for a year, went to Turkey for an eclipse, bicycled from the Bay Area to Canada, drove to Mardi Gras, hiked in national parks, bought a big ramshackle RV, spent the summer in it wandering in northern Canada. Now home, at last I have my house back. I live in the 10-room 2-storey side. When that is rented by vacationers, I live in the 3-room mother-in-law unit. It is 'A Prequel to Hamlet', written in faux Elizabethan prose. | Interests | My interests are: long-distance bicycling, writing and now editing a five-act Elizabethan tragi-comedy, procrastinating writing a series of essays, going to solar eclipses (9 so far), Sierra hiking, particularly above tree line, skiing, astronomy, romantic classical music, reading, travel, photography, learning Photoshop, wandering and wondering, supporting Israel. I am currently (summer '08) bicycling in British Columbia, hopefully to Alaska. I am in touch by wi-fi. Update (27 July 2008): I have completed the Cassiar Highway, left BC, entered the Yukon, and am nearing Alaska. (November 11) I am back from working full-time on the Obama campaign in Colorado. I was assigned to Grand Junction. Obama carried Colorado but we got clobbered in Grand Junction / Mesa County by 64% to 34%. |
