| Introduction | Thank you for taking an interest in my blog. ------- My aim is to raise curiosity about the South Wales Valleys which have been sadly ignored as a place of beauty and tourist destination. In the 1600s the first scars appeared on the hillsides. Then for four centuries, this area was a mainstay for the Industrial Revolution, sacrificing its woodlands for charcoal, its green hills for iron forges, coal mines, tips and slag heaps, tramroads and the railway. With heavy industries declining in the 21st century, the beauty of our hills is again evident. Insights still remain of the poverty and riches of the workers and their masters. My special interests are Llanhilleth Miners Institute, a Grade II listed building, and Guardian, Six Bells Miners' Memorial. |
