| Introduction | Play Readers of Denton, founded by 5 DCT actors in January 2006, met weekly at the North Branch of the Denton Public Library to read a play out loud. With an ever-expanding library of scripts to haul in every week from the parking lot, and an absolute closing time of 9 pm, Play Readers gratefully accepted DCT’s invitation to become an official Outreach Program in early 2007. Play Readers meets every Tuesday night (except the third Tuesday of each month, which is reserved for Playwrights of Denton) upstairs at the Campus Theatre to read at least one play out loud. It is a great program for adults who have an interest in theatre but either don’t have the time to commit to a full production schedule or need more experience reading out loud before they can be cast in a show. Playwrights of Denton, which meets the third Tuesday of each month in lieu of Play Readers of Denton, was created in response to requests from the Play Readers group, who wanted a forum to discuss, critique, and analyze amateur playwriting efforts. |
