OccupationWildlife Biologist, Land Bird Conservation Coordinator
LocationLittleton, CO, United States
IntroductionI am originally from near Philadelphia, PA and attended college at Millersville University. After college, I moved to Statesboro, GA where I got my Master's in Biology at Georgia Southern University. I lived and worked in the southeast for 17 years before moving to Colorado in 2015. I work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as land bird coordinator for the Mountain-Prairie Region. I help support conservation and research on declining birds like Sprague's Pipit, Thick-billed and Chestnut-collared Longspurs, Baird's Sparrow, and Pinyon Jay. My wife and I have a daughter in 3rd grade (2020-21) and twin boys who turned 4 in Nov 2020. I periodically get out my guitar and play songs until the kids complain, which doesn't take too long.
InterestsThe Colorado birding community lost long-time birder Joe Roller in November 2020. Joe was well known in the birding community and was a beloved friend to many around the state and beyond. Since I had gotten seriously into this green birding thing in 2020 (fully combined my passions for birding and cycling), where I found 244 species walking or riding my bike from my house in Littleton, CO, I've decided to continue green birding in 2021 for a good cause. I've partnered with Colorado Field Ornithologists and we have created the Joe Roller Memorial Grant to support bird research in Colorado. We are raising funds via pledges per species that I find in 2021, or flat donations, to support the new grant. I'm excited to promote green birding, raise funds for bird research in CO, and do it in Joe's honor! It's a win-win-win! Favorite musicI'm a huge music fan. I have a very eclectic music collection, with a lot of progressive rock, alternative rock, and blues (especially Mississippi Hill Country blues). I have gotten into all types of progressive rock in the last couple years. I'm currently really into post-rock, especially instrumental post-rock.
Favorite booksWith the kiddos, I don't get much time to read (or have energy to), but I like pretty much anything by Clive Cussler and Jeffery Deaver.
