When you've got water stuck in your ear, how do you get it out?

I have never thought about this, nor did I ever imagine that it would be public knowledge. I tilt my head to the side and hit that side of my head with the heel of my hand. I am not sure why, but it seems to work. I am now a little self-conscious that this is unhealthy or harmful in some way.
