About me

Occupation Birth & Postpartum Doula
Location Washington, DC, United States
Introduction Hello! My name is Shandanette, and I am a DONA-trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, ICEA-trained Childbirth Educator, and a Certificated Lactation Educator & Counselor. I am also a grad student working toward a Master of Public Health degree in Maternal & Child Health. I started Birth Assistance and Support for Informed Labors (BASIL) in October 2010 with the hopes of helping families make informed decisions regarding pregnancy, labor and delivery, newborn care, and infant feeding.

I believe that birth can be an empowering experience to all people if they have access to the information necessary to make informed decisions that are best for them and their families.

I am LGBTQ-friendly and understand that there are many ways to start families. Additionally, I pride myself on being a size-positive, body-positive, birth activist, lactivist, and feminist!

I provide doula and education services to those located in the metropolitan DC area.
