| Introduction | A sojourner here, a raggamuffin who has been befriended by the King. My cry has been to be brought closer to my Savior, to know Him more. We work in England with a ministry founded by WEC missionaries - Betel (which means Bethel in Spanish). Betel was started in Spain 24 years ago and now has churches and centers in 20 countries and continues to grow. Here in the UK we have five centers and churches. We are a Christian community that takes in drug addicts, alcoholics and the chronic homeless. Anyone with an addiction, really, but mostly heroin addicts and alcoholics. Betel also plants a church wherever there is a center. The centers are usually 90% self-sufficient, as the men and women work in one of the charity businesses. These can vary from country to country, but in England they do very well with used furniture shops and gardening services. I work at the main center. This is the most rewarding work I have ever done. I am amazed that God has brought us to such a place. We see miracles as men and women break free from their addictions and the chains of their pasts. This is an incredible place to be. |
