IntroductionI don't know exactly who I currently am, because like our society as a whole, I am composting: shedding past versions of myself that serve neither the most whole version of myself, nor the collective good. I'm hopeful of what will emerge, both in myself and in our world, and yet am learning to be comfortable sitting in the messy rottenness of this historical moment, learning how to feel and to connect while ushering in the collapse that will be both terrifying and liberating. Paradoxically, the more deeply I accept that collapse is inevitable, the more hopeful I become about the seeds that will sprout out of the debris. I am learning and teaching and connecting and embracing my writing as a creative outlet. My most important teachers are my partner, family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, students, ancestors, and nature. Some of the more public voices whose work I've been swimming in most recently include Adrienne Marie Brown, Resmaa Menakem, Richard Rohr, Prentis Hemphill, Rev. Angel Kyodo Williams and the entire line-up of facilitators in the Embodied Social Justice Certificate course I'm finishing up--which has been revolutionary for me.
