Introduction "How did you ever think of this idea" a friend asked recently. I told him of my early teen years when I was intrigued by "el contratista", "the contractor" in our farming community. It was a form of elitism among local farmworkers to work with "el contratista". I wondered, "Now, how does that work?" I knew he didn't own the land or the crops his "contract laborers" worked. Now, my past intrigue has taken on a passion for independent contractors. This in the truest sense, not as our government categorizes so-called "contractors" as in the countless apparel manufacturing sites so rapidly vanishing in America. So, what's my message on "Independent Contracting"? It is a legitimate business. It is how the individual can leverage tax law to their advantage. It is that when you create alliances, or networks, you multiply their efforts and revenues. Unlike "el contratista", my conviction is the Independent Contractor, as the one who does most of the work, deserves the greater portion of compensation. It's not a novel idea. It is a workable one. It is one which esteems and elevates the worth of the laborer, the Independent Contractor.
