| Introduction | Learned to sail in Toronto Harbour in a Gremlin design pram that my dad built for me. Then sailed my father's home built Chapelle-designed 16' Hampton Flattie that he built from Chapelle's Boatbuilding book. Sailed Nordbergs, Albacores, International 14's, my sister's Firefly, Lightnings, Blue Jays, sailboard, Flying Juniors. Placed in a number of CYA Juniors Canadian championships with my mate Danny Cox. Owned a 23' centre-cockpit bilge keel sloop on Toronto harbour. Built a number of small boats including a Bolger-designed 16' Windsprint and several "tortured ply" kayaks, among others. The first boat I built, at age 13, was a canvas-on-frame kayak. I had sent away for the plans from Mechanics Illustrated magazine. I used the shed in which my dad built the first trimaran on the Great Lakes (an Arthur Piver-designed 24' Nugget). |
