| Introduction | I have been collecting the stories of my ancestors since I was a child. With roots in the United Kingdom and Europe, they lived in New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina, but succeeding generations moved west to Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas, until my great-grandparents reached California in the late 1800s and early 1900s. |
